Wel at Humana celebrates Pride Month through movement

In honor of Pride Month this year, Wel at Humana partnered with four local organizations to help Louisvillians celebrate who they are and who they love through fitness.

Alongside The Humana Foundation, lululemon, Copper & Kings Distillery, and Louisville Youth Group, Wel at Humana hosted a high intensity bootcamp class, called “Move with Pride,” to allow participants to meet new people and build lasting relationships.

The workout class was followed by a social hour with cocktails available and free distillery tours to learn more about the brandy-making process.

“It’s not only about getting your fitness in, working on health, but also building a community with people you may have never interacted with,” said Dana Price, the Dedicated Account Manager for Wel at Humana. “And that’s something that’s really special in Louisville and something we really focus on.”

During the event, participants were encouraged to donate what they could to support the Louisville Youth Group (LYG), a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving gender and sexuality diverse young people. The Humana Foundation pledged to match every donation dollar-for-dollar during the event.

All total, the event raised $1,020, resulting in a $2,040 donation to LYG. These funds will allow LYG to take LGBTQIA+ youth to its annual Empowerment Camp, a launchpad for each child’s journey to self-discovery, community connection, and long-term success.

“It’s really important to know that not just our community is being lifted up right now, but also that Louisville, in general, and Louisville’s corporations are willing to support diversity in their city,” said Madelyn Spaulding, Assistant Director of Development at LYG.

This is not the first time The Humana Foundation has been involved in Wel at Humana’s community fitness event series, which launched in 2022. They’ve stepped up in a big way connecting Wel at Humana to other community partners like Dare to Care Food Bank.

“One of our missions with Wel at Humana is being a good neighbor,” said Price. “That means being out in the community, being present for events, being a leader in creating opportunities for people to come together.”

The fitness facility is planning one of their largest events this September at Paristown Hall on the turf lawn connected to the Village Market, which boasts several food and cocktail vendors. The event will be capped at 100 participants. So, make sure to follow the Eventbrite to stay in the know on all future events.
